Capacitor Discharge

Due to safety considerations, generally, all capacitors in any equipment must be safely discharged within a short period of time after switch off before the equipment is safe to be opened for testing or repair.

Large electrolytic capacitors in any equipment generally need to be positively discharged to prevent an accidental shock to the technicians attending the machine. PEC makes special resistors called the PYP and PPRY resistors that are designed for easy and direct mounting on the capacitors with screw terminals in a range of wattages from 10W to 22W.

These resistors can also be used for voltage balancing across capacitor banks and for voltage symmetry.
